For most people, riding in normal skinny bike lanes is a scary experience. While they work for the more fearless people, they are too close to fast moving vehicles for children and their grandparents to use comfortably. A buffered bike lane fixes this by marking a few feet of the road as 'off limits' for both bikes and cars.
The buffered bike lane is an innovative approach to keeping people safe:
- People enjoy a calmer road
- Residents are offered cleaner air
- Kids get a safer road to cross
- The bike lanes are safe enough for children to ride
